History of the Group
Exeter
LGB Youth Group was established in 2002 with funding and support from Comic
Relief, Devon Youth Service, Exeter City Council and Crimebeat. A management
group was formed with representatives from Service Users, Devon Youth Service,
the Devon and Cornwall Constabulary and other key stakeholders. Part-time Lead
and Assistant Youth Workers were appointed and the process of developing
policies and procedures was begun.
During
2003 the name ‘X-Plore’ was chosen by service users, our logo and publicity
materials were developed. The group began to meet regularly and has met on a
weekly basis since.
In
2004 X-Plore became a registered charity to safeguard its independence, ensure
accountability to service users and help promote a positive public image. X-Plore
received further funding from Devon County Council, Exeter Community Safety
Partnership and South West Foundation.
The
group has now received funding until 2007/08 from the Big Lottery Fund and The
Tudor Trust.
